When Science North began a comprehensive makeover of its popular interactive physical science exhibits, they turned to Main Street Design. A place to Tinker, Hack, Innovate, Network and Know, THINK is designed to facilitate open-ended learning experiences, offering an integrated suite of guided and free-choice activities that invite guests to investigate scientific principles, create prototypes, and invent and test solutions to problems using a wide range of basic and cutting edge techniques.
Visitors can explore the properties of magnetic materials using ferrofluids, invent their own musical instruments, create beautiful large-scale tessellated patterns, and construct simple electrical circuits, among many other activities. The physical and graphical environment for THINK is lively and bright, employing familiar materials in unexpected and innovative ways. At a fundamental level THINK is not an “exhibition” at all, in any traditional sense. it is a living laboratory of concepts and ideas equipped with simple and sophisticated tools and furnished with a broad inventory of materials, pieces, and parts.
